A closer look at Purina One ingredients that they use by-products but they do use real meat as the first ingredients. There are people who also avoid it because there are no probiotics, chelated minerals, or amino acids. According to them, the low price doesn’t make up for the poor quality.
There is also a serious concern with regards to the average amounts fat and protein used in the recipes. Both amounts are lower or average in comparison to other dog foods and with one of the key ingredients being a poultry by-product meal, there are other affordable dog food brands that offer more of a well-balanced diet.

There have been recalls on some of the Purina brands, which is cause for concern.
In 2016 there was a voluntary recall on Beneful and Purina Pro Plan wet foods due to inadequate minerals and vitamins.
And in 2013 they did a recall on Purina ONE beyOnd’s White Meat Chicken & Whole Barley Recipe Adult Dry Dog Food due because of possible salmonella risk.

Purina One is a well-known dog food and has maintained a decent reputation over the years. Unfortunately, recalls and negative reviews have had a negative impact on the brand; however, there are still customers that love it and so do their dogs. In general, the reviews are mixed and depending on who you ask, you will get very different responses.
The change in the recipe has also had an effect where dogs that enjoyed the taste in the past no longer do. Would we give our pets Purina One? If budget was a concern, yes we probably would but we would definitely include a supplement to make sure they’re getting all the nutrition they need. My little chihuahuas love the Lamb n Rice Purina ONE with the little crunchies of meat. They prefer this particular dog food over Iams, which is odd to me, but they like what they like. Since they have a bad habit of not wanting to eat any food when I give them Iams, I decided to stick with what they do like to eat. Its Purina ONE for us.
