Victor Dog Food Review: Paying Premium for Immunity and Digestive Health

Victor dog food review

Introduction

There’s a chance you haven’t heard of Victor Dog Food and it’s not because it’s a new product, and it’s definitely not because it isn’t good. The premium brand pet food has been available since 2007; however, the brand name goes all the way back to the 1940s.

Their aim is to produce what they call “Super Premium” pet food with no corn, soy, wheat, or glutens. Their premium dog food also contains no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives and the majority of their products are free from GMOs.

Their dry dog food recipes are formulated in such a way that all the ingredients work together to build a strong immune and digestive system.

Rating

It’s difficult finding any negative reviews for Victor Dog Food as far as the ingredients and quality go. In general, people are extremely happy with this dry dog food but there are those who feel it’s a little more expensive when compared to other dog foods on the market.

Also, the small amount of vegetables used and the lack of fruit is a problem for some dog owners. But, if you’re looking for a high-quality dog food for your best friend, you won’t go wrong with this. We score it 4.8 out of 5 stars.

Review

All of the products in the Victor premium dog food range use quality ingredients and there are a few lines to choose from, including Select, Grain-Free and Victor Basic. All three cater to different budgets and to the different needs of dogs at the different stages in their lives.

As mentioned before, the formulas are high in meat protein but there are very little vegetables and no fruit. But we feel this can be forgiven, considering how well they do with everything else. There’s a wide variety of flavors to choose from and you’ll definitely find something for your four-legged friend.

Pros

Great Variety

There’s a wide variety of foods in the range to suit your dog’s specific needs with different protein sources.

Pitbull in yellow

Victor Dog Food Price

Victor dog food prices might scare a few customers away; however, the different ranges vary in price and it is a high-quality dog food. The best value for money is the Select line; it’s still a premium product with quality ingredients for your pup, but at a more budget-friendly price.

Your Dog’s Health Comes First

Victor dog food ingredients are a testament to the fact that canines come first. Their products don’t have any inferior ingredients like soy, wheat, or corn, which is a huge plus. They’re committed to your dog’s health and that gives us confidence in the product.

Cons

Rice

There are a few reviews that mention rice being used as for carbs. This could be a problem if you’re particularly strict with your dog’s carbohydrates source. We still think it’s a better option than wheat, soy, or corn.

Grain-Free Range is Limited

At the moment the grain-free line is fairly limited but it’s a relatively new offering from the company and we’re sure in time they’ll have more of a selection. We don’t think it’s a deal-breaker but if you prefer more variety then it’s something to be aware of.

Victor Dog Food Price

We know we mentioned Victor dog food prices in our pros, so you’re probably wondering why it’s also a con. To be fair, for some people, even the more affordable range is still more expensive than other dog foods.

Not Available Everywhere

Victor isn’t as widely available as some of the other brands, which can become a bit of an inconvenience.

Product Line

There are 17 formulas on the Victor website, with a lot of grain-free products, as well as foods for active and sporting dogs and ‘normally active dogs’.

The grain-free range includes:

Ingredient Analysis

No matter which of the Victor dog food ranges you look at, the ingredients across all are of a superior quality, and definitely above average. Meat meal has 300% more protein than fresh meat and is the first ingredient in their formulas. Complex carbs are sourced from sweet potatoes and are used in most of the recipes. This provides your dog with the necessary dietary fiber.

Omega-3 and 6 fatty acids help with digestion and promote and healthy skin and a shiny coat.

Recall history

There haven’t been any dog food recalls for Victor Dog Food in all their years of manufacturing. There are people that say for a company that’s only been around since 2007, it’s not that big a deal, but they have in fact been making dog food since the ‘40s. So, we think it’s definitely an achievement.

Conclusion

Victor Dog Food ticks all the boxes for us, from ingredients and their formulas, to the choice of flavors that are available. Even their basic line uses real fats and the grain-free range is similar to Select, except all the grains have been removed. We also like that the three different ranges cater to all budgets and that there are products for young and very active pups, all the way through to seniors enjoying their golden years.

It’s not always easy to find, which can be a bit of an inconvenience; however, we suggest when you do find a supplier you stock up on a few bags. It’s a well-balanced diet, providing all the nutrition your pooch needs to stay healthy and happy.

If you love your dog, you’ll love feeding him Victor.
